COMMUNITY KITE PROJECT PRESENTS ’10 KITES’ EXHIBITION AND FREE KITE MAKING WORKSHOPS FOR ALL
Community Kite Project is a collaboration between Christopher JarrattJo Peel and Tom Tobia. We believe fun, imagination and the art of making are precious commodities. We would like to share them with as many people as possible.
Running from 1st -7th March, 2012 – Community Kite Project will be holding kite making workshops alongside an exhibition of kites designed and made by Christopher Jarratt and art-worked by some of our favourite UK artists including:

CKP will be hosting a week-long festival of kite making and workshops and evening kite related screenings, including a live stream with Sayamimdu Dasgupta at MIT’s Media Lab on how to build the perfect Indian Fighting Kite! Local community groups, schools, offices, passers-by and families are invited to build a kite each, and the best bit - it's FREE and it’s for everyone! No cost, no catch, just a chance to explore your inner child, get imaginative and make yourself a fully functioning kite to keep. What could be more fun than that?

Christopher Jarratt vs Sebastian Bergne

A bit of a David vs Goliath firing showdown going on here (me being David..... help!).

"Up for grabs is a chance to own the winner of this minor showing-off contest. So, without further ado…. this weekend we’ll pit the honed and toned athleticism of Sebastian Bergne’s ‘BANDIT’ against the solid sturdy gumption of Christopher Jarratt’s ‘SLINGSHOT’ in a battle of firing skills including; accuracy, distance, impact, and blammo (not sure what that is yet, but we’ll think of something)."

If you’d like to take a punt at securing yourself the winner, each a fine example of British design and fun, then email Spunique with your name and a contact number HERE. The winner will be selected at random on Monday 17 October.

YCN show review

Firstly I would like to say Thank You to all that took the time out to come and visit my show at YCN. Below are a few shots (no pun intended) of the show over the last two weeks. The slingshot firing range proved a great success with over 500 paintball's getting blasted into the wall in the first week alone! I can't wait to do something similar again.

If you missed the show, and still want to see the slingshots, fear not. The Slingshots will be staying in the YCN Shop HERE.

Take a shot at YCN

As part of this year's London Design Festival we are delighted to welcome Christopher Jarratt and his extra-ordinary hand made slingshots to YCN at 72 Rivington Street. You can buy them online here too.

Christopher has produced an exclusive special edition of 30 slings and three accompanying big ones to form the centrepiece of our window display.

All are available for sale both at 72 Rivington Street and online, and there's a "try before you buy" firing range in store, where you can test your aim and see what a paintball does to a wall when fired out of a hand crafted slingshot. Safety glasses provided.

The show runs from Saturday, 17th – 25th September with a Private View on Tuesday 20th September. For more information or press "shots" please email camilla@ycnonline.com or call +44 (0)20 7033 2140.

Hidden Heroes Exhibition - Eindhoven, Netherlands

The Vitra backed Hidden Heroes exhibition featuring the Cityscape coat hangers and Slingshots, has taken residence in the Designhuis, Enidhoven until the 25th May.

From paperclip to pencil, from condom to Velcro, and from press stud to clothes peg. Based on an idea as simple as it was ingenious , these Hidden Heroes of everyday life are actually the ultimate examples of sustainability and functional aesthetics. This exhibition of 35 everyday classics, their history and significance is produced by the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein; the first stop on its journey across the world is the Netherlands.

New work @ Co-Laboratory exhibition

I will be exhibiting a new piece (in collaboration with Rhoslyn Butler) along with some one-off Slingshots and the Building Blocks at the Co-Laboratory exhibition in Hoxton from the 15-25 April.

If you can make it come down for the private view on the 14 April, 6-9pm.

Co-Laboratory:
By invitation designers have been paired with different, yet complimentary practices, to create new work. The intention is to nurture the creativity of conversation, and to encourage new discoveries through an exchange of skills. They have all been asked to make something new, something that functions and something that uses the following quote as its starting point:
‘The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are.’ John Pierpont Morgan
